Sugar Cookies Decorated with Royal Icing - Mom's Birthday

These cookies were for MY mom!  You know the story about the cobbler's children having no shoes?  Well this cookier's family rarely gets cookies.  If I'm not making cookies for an order, I rarely get up the energy to make them for my own family events.

Not this time!  My mom is my biggest fan.  She thinks I'm the greatest cookie decorator on earth.  Luckily surfing the net is not among her finest talents.  We'll just let her keep believing that.

She had a milestone birthday last month and a big ol' party.  I HAD to make cookies just for her.

Her favorite color is blue so......

Lots of flowers......

Candles, balloons, cupcakes, presents, and a special message just for her.....

I know my mom all too well.  Before anyone could take a cookie, I asked her which ones she'd like.  I KNEW that she would want to freeze some.  To keep.  To look at.  To bring out and show people.  That's what she does.  

And that's just what she did.  :)

First Birthday Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing

It was a Minnie themed party!

I really searched around for a Minnie cutter with the bow.  I finally found it here. I cut off the bottom of the cookie, leaving just the ears hat.  I didn't want a huge black cookie.

Hot pink cupcakes and ovals with polka dot bows.

White daisies were on the invitations and were the centerpiece, so here they are in cookie form.

I love adding minis to message cookies!

Candles, #1, and hearts.

I'm not thrilled with my little wet on wet flowers on the 1s and hearts.

The bows on the oval cookies were royal icing transfers.  What a time-saver and they all came out the same.  Gotta love that!

The bows on the hats were piped right onto the cookies. First I made a bow template, traced it onto the cookies, then piped.

You can see how the bows on the ovals are raised above the cookies, while the ones on the ears are flat.

(Did you notice that I forgot the polka dots on the bow centers of the ear cookies?!)

The icing under the bows is a very thin layer, but
I'm concerned that it may be too much icing and too crunchy.  I should have kept one to taste to find out!

These were very fun to decorate and I'm quite pleased with how they came out.

50th Birthday Sugar Cookies

It's a 50th Birthday Party! I made sugar cookies decorated with royal icing.



These were for my neighbor's brother. He's Irish so they requested two shades of green.




I made a "Happy Birthday" message cookie. My writing doesn't look so bad! Purposely making the letters crooked definitely helps!



I wanted to make a "50" cookie but wasn't sure that putting the two numbers together would work. I used the 5 cutter to cut into the 0 a little bit. Then I snuggled that 5 right in there. It worked perfectly.









The cupcakes came out quite well. I piped more lines on the wrapper than the last time. I'm liking it!










There are birthday candles and small rounds with "50" on them.


Then there are the balloon. Balloons with very lame 50s piped on. I used a 1.5 tip. I should have used a larger one or outlined chunky numbers and flooded them. Something. Anything to give them a little more weight.


The numbers on the balloons are the only thing in this collection that I really wish I had done differently.

Overall, I'm quite pleased. These were fun to make!
