Every time I'm asked to re-create a logo in icing, I get a little nervous.  It needs to be accurate.  There's no room for creativity here.

So thankful for my Kopykake.  I could never do logos without it!

If you decorate cookies,  you've probably heard about this app.  I first heard about it from Sarah of Klickitat Street.

It works just like a KopyKake, only no huge piece of equipment and no heavy price tag.

The Camera Lucida app allows you to see your cookie through your iPhone or iPad. When you look through the screen, you can see your cookie plus any image that you'd like - right on top of it.  You simply trace or pipe the design right onto the cookie!

Camera Lucida isn't just for cookies!  In fact, it wasn't developed with cookie decorating in mind.  You could use the app with actual paper as your canvas instead of cookies.  Who would have thought?

Tutorial - How to use Kopykake Projector to Decorate Cookies

I'm often asked about my KK - Kopykake projector.  I love my KK.  Mostly I just use it for message cookies, but it's invaluable to me!  Marian asked if I would show how I use my KK for piping messages. So here you go!

First, type out and print the text.  Print it approximately the size it will be on the cookies.  The KK can enlarge and reduce your image slightly.

I like to print a box around the text.  Those lines help me to make sure the words are straight on the cookie.

Cut them out.

I've seen that people situate their KK in different positions.  I set mine up so that the pole is on my left.  That means that I place the text inside the box, right side-up.

I like to slant it slightly.  Then my cookie is at a slant while I'm piping.  That feels more natural and makes it easier to write.

Turn that baby on.  Focus.  Reduce or enlarge.  Line it up straight.

Time to pipe.  Using the KK takes a little getting used to.  The shadow from your hand can get in the way, blocking the image being projected.  Practice helps!

Add a border and whatever else you'd like, after you're finished with the message.

Jack-o-Lantern Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing Glaze

A birthday party at the pumpkin patch!  How fun is that? 

I made these jack-o-lantern cookies for the party.  Bagged up and ready to be handed out to the kiddos.

I made a stencil so that the faces would be all alike.  I traced the stencil onto ONE cookie then changed my mind on that idea.  I put the stencil into the Kopykake projector and it was so much faster and more accurate!

A white stencil against the black in the kopykake worked like a charm.  It was amazing how well it showed up.  If you have a KK, try a stencil in there sometime!

Kopykake Projector - Two Tips to Keep Cookies from Shifting

Welcome to Tuesday's Tips - where I share just a little something with you that I hope you'll find useful.

Today I have two quick tips for making sure that your cookie doesn't move under the image from a Kopykake projector.

* Swing the lamp around so that the projected image is close to the edge of the board.  No reaching!

* Tape a napkin to the board and place your cookie on it.  The tape keeps the napkin from moving.  The napkin keeps the cookie from moving because it's less slippery than parchment or wax paper.
